The lesser known tale was perhaps of Antony and Cleopatra. Antony was the Roman general and Cleopatra was the beautiful and brilliant last Pharaoh of Egypt. Though Cleopatra was married before and was mistress to Julius Caesar, it didn’t stop Antony and Cleopatra from falling in love. Upon hearing the news, Cleopatra kills herself.

Close back home, the story of our Taj Mahal and its love story has been encouraging lovers since 1632. Married at the young age of 15 years old, Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal were inseparable. Although Shah Jahan had other wives as well but no one could replace Mumtaz. After her death, a grieving Shah Jahan commissioned the construction of Taj Mahal.

On the literary front, Robert and Elizabeth Browning’s poems were inspired by their long courtship and eventual elopement to Italy. They wrote many poems while being in Italy including Elizabeth’s Sonnets from the Portugese. Elizabeth’s work overshadowed that of Roberts. Often called “Mrs. Browning’s husband”, they never let get in between and lived happily for many years before Elizabeth’s death.

All the love stories were able to create a bubbly feeling in us all, making us wish that we all had such a love story. Even if we cannot have such inspirational love stories, we can work towards making our love stories unique in our own ways.
