I have often heard that ‘Love is patience’, but could never relate to it. I always thought that long hours of waiting in the restaurant or at the bus stop for your lover, can’t make you feel good. I mean it’s irritating, isn’t it?
But, my perspective changed when I got married and fell in love with my husband. In arranged marriage, falling in love is not a choice, it is an obligation, especially if you are born in India. I must accept that I was really lucky to marry my husband. I am not saying it because he is my life partner, I am saying this because I am 100% sure that I would not have been able to love anyone else. At least, that’s what I believe.
Love also tested my patience not once or twice, but many a times. I waited for more than an year for my husband to say ‘I Love You’. No, it’s not a joke guys, I am serious here. He was always kind and understanding with me, since the day we got married, but there was something which was holding him back.
On our six month’s anniversary, he poured his heart out to me. For the first time I got to know the real him. He had a very bad past relation and this was the only reason which was stopping him to move on. That night, we talked and talked until we fell asleep on the couch. And, when we woke up the next morning, we found a new person in each other.
From that day onwards, we became good friends and partners for life. He never forced me to do anything against my wish and always supported me in whatever I wanted to do and that was the thing I liked the most about him.
I never realized when did I fall in love with him, the feeling was so good. I wanted to confess it to him, but I really wanted to give him time. With each passing day, my love for him grew and the patience too. Though he was my husband, but I was still desperate to hear those three words of love.
And, that day came after 15 months of our marriage. He said ‘I Love You’ to me on my birthday on the day of valentine’s day. That was the best valentine gift and the best birthday for me.
Now, I too believe that love is patience and this patience leads to many unforgettable stories.
