  1. Water is the prime requisite for a proper functioning of your body. As you have to exempt yourself from drinking water, you may witness a loss of energy. Therefore, you must drink the isotonic drinks and natural fruit and vegetable juices. Even sportsmen consume these isotonic drinks as they have a good amount of minerals, salts, and vitamins.
  2. The Iftar or the fast-breaking feast must start with nutritious dates. These would provide your body with an immediate source of energy. And then drink plenty of water to recharge your system.
  3. You must avoid highly-processed (white wheat), high-sugar, and high-fat content foods during your Iftar. Many people gorge on a lavish spread of Biryani, authentic sweets, fried foods like Pakoras, Clarified Butter drenched Rotis and Halwas, etc. That’s a mistake by the way! Because by the time of Iftar, your bodies have learned to preserve as much energy as possible now if you eat these foods, it would add to the body fat reserve.
  4. When you are breaking the fast, you must eat moderately rather than jumping on a variety of foods.
  5. Try to avoid salty foods during Suhoor and Iftar as they would make you feel dehydrated.
  6. Have meals consisting of slow release carbohydrates as they would keep you energized for a longer period. Also don’t forget the fibers and proteins like cereals, dairy products, eggs, fish, vegetables, fruits, etc.
  7. Instead of oily and Ghee drenched recipes, you can rely more on cereals, fresh fruits and vegetables, and salads. These fibers and proteins would prevent constipation during Ramadan.
  8. After every half an hour of your Iftar meal, you can keep sipping water, fruit juice, and energy drinks. This would prepare your body to keep well hydrated for the next day.
  9. Don’t opt for any physical exercise immediately after Iftar meal.
  10. Be mindful of the sugar content in your food and drinks. For your cups of tea and coffee also, keep a moderate amount of sugar.
  11. Go for the balanced diet of protein, carbohydrates, fiber, and good fats for the Suhoor meal. Never miss this early morning meal as you have to starve for the whole day.
